Finding summer camps can be like an Olympic sport in Summer California. You’ve got to do your research, you’ve got to start early, and you’ve got to show up ON TIME if you want to snag your kids a spot.
But some of us (us, in particular, if we’re being honest) don’t really do THAT. We realize partway into summer that our kids are driving us crazy, and start looking around for summer camps for kids to get them out of our hair.
So we’re compiling this list of summer camps in Long Beach for 2022 for those of you who find yourself in similar positions.
It’s not going to have complete information for every camp, but it should be a solid list of options for you to explore.

A Note About Our List of Summer Camps in Long Beach (2022)
Look, we probably COULD do a full, epic post with all the information about all the camps listed in this post.
But I’m gonna be honest with you- we have kids too, and we’re tired. And for 2022, this is the best we could do. This post is more like a chat with friends over coffee.
Like, “oh, did you see the chocolate shop is doing one?” And then you’re like, “no, oh my gosh, that’s amazing I’ll have to look into it!”
Like that.
So use this list as a jumping off point to help you find summer camps that will work for your kids. It should be easy enough to rule out the ones your kiddos aren’t interested in.
Full Day Summer Camps in Long Beach
There are some FANTASTIC full day summer camps in Long Beach. The hard part about these is that they tend to fill up fast and, obviously, they’re a bit more on the expensive side.
Here are some of the ones we can vouch for personally, either because our kids have gone or our friends’ kids have:
- YMCA Full Day Summer Camps – Offered all summer long, 5 days a week, 6:30 am to 6 pm. Costs is $250-$350 per week, depending on the type of camp.
- Alpert JCC Camp Komaroff– Offered all summer, 5 days a week, 8 am to 4 pm (extended care til 6 pm available). Cost is $345-400 per week.
- City of Long Beach Summer Camps– Monday through Friday 9-4, with extended care available 7 am – 6 pm. Various sites and programs. Cost is $100-$125 per week.
- Girl Scouts Summer Day Camp (El Ranchito or Marine Landing)– Monday through Friday, 9-4 (before and after care available). $235 per week. This one sells out quick!
- City of Los Alamitos Summer Camp– 9 am to 3 pm (Extended Care Available). $108 per week.
Here are others that we know of, but that we don’t have personal experience with:
- City of Lakewood Family Services Summer Camp– Open only to Lakewood residents. Monday through Friday, 9-5, $175 per week.
- Galileo Summer Camp– Los Alamitos- 9-3, with extended care available.$450 per week.
- Westerly Summer Camp– 8:30 am to 3:30 pm (Extended care available). $450 per week.
- Signal Hill Summer Day Camp– 1st through 5th grade. 8 am-6 pm. $80 per week.
Half Day Summer Camps in Long Beach
If you don’t need full day care, there are lots of fun options to consider for summer camps in Long Beach.
Here are half day summer camps:
- 49er Athletics Camp at CSULB– Monday through Friday, 1-5 pm. Cost: $625 per 4 week session.
- Academic Enrichment Program at CSULB- Monday through Friday, 8-12. Cost: $700 per 4 week session.
- CSULB Summer Arts Camp– Monday Throu$350 per two week session.
- CodeNinja Summer Camps– Los Alamitos- Times and Dates Vary. 5 days, $250 per session.
- Signal Hill Itty Bitty Day Camp– Ages 3-6. Monday through Friday, 8-12. $90 per week.
- Lakewood Equestrian Center– Ages 7-17. 9 am to 2 pm, Monday through Friday. Pricing varies.
- SPCLA Animal Shelter Friends for Life Summer Camp– Ages 9-14. Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 12:30.
- Aqualand at Alamitos Bay- Ages 6-15, 8:30-11 am. $140 per week.
Special Interest Summer Camps in Long Beach
If you don’t need childcare, but are just looking for some summer fun for your kiddos, consider these shorter, special interest summer camps in Long Beach.
There is bound to be something for everyone, from bakers to young scientists. It’ll give you a little break (and them a little excitement!) without interfering with other vacations or plans.
Here are some of the local special interest camps in Long Beach:
- CSULB Young Scientists Camp– Two weeks in summer, 8:30-12. Cost: $350.
- Camp Nugget Adaptive PE Camp– Four week long session, 9-12, ages 5-12. $500 per session.
- Romeo Chocolates’ Candy Making Camp – August 20 & 21- Ages 4-10
- Kick It Up Performing Arts Camp– Ages 4-7. Dates vary. 9-11:30, $125 per week.
- Butter & Cream Bakery–3 1.5 hour sessions- $175. ages 7-11. Includes lunch.
- Power of One Martial Arts– We don’t have a ton of information on this year’s camp, but our kids have done it in the past and really enjoyed it.
- The Little Gym of Lakewood– Offering 3 hour camps for kids ages 3-8 (typically 1 pm to 4 pm), and skills camps (think cartwheels or handsprings) for kids 6 -12. Camp costs vary.
