Tips for Going to Summer Movies for Kids in Long Beach

Okay, first up, you should know: these movies are often very busy. We even have friends who have been turned away (and they arrived early!)

To make sure you have a great summer movie experience:

  • Show up early! Unless you are going to a theater with a reserved seat, you want to show up at LEAST half an hour before the movie starts to grab tickets and seats.
  • Know Your Times! The movie theaters don’t publish their movie start times on the Summer Movie Homepages. You’ll have to check the schedule the first week to see days & times these movies are playing. There’s usually only 1 or 2 time options each week.
  • Use the buddy system. It can be a little tricky to take your kids to these movies with just parent/supervisor. Try to coordinate your movie date with a friend so that one can stay with the kids in the theater if someone needs more popcorn or to go to the bathroom.
  • Pair your visit to line up with other rewards. For instance, Regal Theaters (Edwards) has cheaper popcorn on Tuesdays. It’ll help you get out of there for a lot less money.
  • Extend the fun. Get to the movie early and wander around the shopping center, or pair with a cheap lunch nearby (see below for details). Or hit up a local park for a picnic afterwards.

Where to Find Kids’ Summer Movies in Long Beach

Edwards Town Center’s Summer Movie Express

This one is my very favorite summer movie program for kids in Long Beach. YES, it gets crowded (it’s a popular summer camp field trip destination).

Movie prices have gone up this summer, to $2 per ticket. As of now, it looks like movies will begin at 11 am.

But there are lots of other perks at Edwards Towne Center‘s Summer Movies for Kids:

  • Visit on Tuesdays for half off popcorn with a regal card.
  • Playground and splash pad are located right in front of the theater to extend the fun.
  • Chick-fil-A is just across the parking lot, and they often do promotions during summer movies (ie a free kids meal with ticket stub, or snow cones out front)
  • Clarkdale Park has a super good splash pad, and it’s just around the corner.
